Valuing Yourself

At the core of many of our problems is a simple lack of self worth. Think about it. If something is not working in your life, what is really at the core of it?

Many of us do not value ourselves. We may or may not see the good in ourselves. We may judge ourselves for the parts we deem as less valuable or desirable. We can even project our lack of self-worth on to others and negatively judge them.

If, something or someone (a relationship) is not working the way you want it to, it’s possible that this is a reflection of how you feel about yourself. How you see yourself is often how the world will treat you.

Learning to value yourself more may positively affect your overall health. Since the mind and body are not separate, how you feel about yourself and the accompanying moods may have a direct affect on your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Badgering yourself or cutting yourself down for something you deem as less desirable only makes the problem worse. The stress you feel from cutting yourself down can cause your internal organs and systems to not function as smoothly.

Often, those parts that you see as bad really need unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness. This will help them release in to something more positive and you will find that you have more self-worth.

Do you value yourself? It may help you to recognize when, where, and how you negatively judge yourself. Try it now.

  1. What do you love about yourself or what parts of you do you feel are good?
  2. What parts of you do you view as bad?
  3. Listen to the uncomfortable parts and suspend the judgment of them.
  4. What are the emotions behind this part of you?
  5. What does this part of you need?
  6. What part of you needs forgiveness?
  7. Bring love and acceptance to this part of you.

This practice may feel a little strange at first. It is really a simple practice of Mindfulness – observing yourself with a compassionate heart and learning to love yourself.

The more you love and value yourself, wonderful things will happen for you in your life and in your relationships! You are worth it!
